Course accessibility
Accommodating a student with a disability
The ATAC partners with campus disability services offices, faculty, and students to help determine:
- Alternate media needs (braille, tactile diagrams, captions, video description, accessible eText, ...)
- If technologies used in a course might create barriers for the student
- How assistive technologies can be used to improve access
Course accessibility consultation
The ATAC can consult on the accessibility of existing courses, as well as those in the design process. We can provide suggestions for addressing instructional materials, the accessible use of teaching and learning technologies, and how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) techniques can help reduce the need for future accommodations.
Alternate media
The ATAC specializes in preparing alternate media to a high standard of accessibility and usability for students. Alternate media formats include braille, tactile graphics, accessible eText, large print, captions, video description, and audio transcripts.
If you're an instructor with students with disabilities in a course, the ATAC can partner with you to provide accessible instructional materials that meet the student's needs.
Assistive technology
Students
Students referred to the ATAC by their campus disability services office can receive free assistive technology loans, as well any necessary consultation, training and support.
IU Community
Any IU instructor or student can receive short-term loans of assistive technologies for use in research, class projects, and demonstrations.
